About Us

Sometimes people experience the things that go bump in the night. Are they the spirits of the deceased still asserting their will in the world of the living? Is it the clanking of pipes, a shadow caused by a passing car, or simply the products of an overactive imagination? We probably will never know the truth. Whether the reasons are mundane or extraordinary, people are experience something and we want to know why.

Parke County Haunts was founded in 2006 by Parke County native Jamie Nickle. After a lifetime of interest in the paranormal and growing up in a house where many unexplained things happened, Jamie was introduced to the Terre Haute chapter of the Indiana Ghost Trackers, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the exploration of the unexplained.

While working with the Indiana Ghost Trackers, Jamie and a close-knit group of friends and family decided to form an independent group dedicated to studying the paranormal folk-lore and supposed hauntings in and around Parke County, Indiana.

Parke County Haunts and its members are “paranormal enthusiasts.” We are interested and excited about the possibility that life after death still interacts with the living. We strive to distance ourselves from the spiritual, pseudo-scientific and misinformation that plagues the paranormal community and popular media. Our methods include active and passive observations to attempt to capture any evidence of paranormal or ghostly activity. We do not utilize psychics, spiritualism or equipment that has no scientifically proven connection to the paranormal such as electromagnetic field detectors. We also work diligently to suppress our own imaginations. A picture of something that looks like a face is not a face; it is something that looks like a face. Most paranormal groups try to press upon their “clients” that their methods are scientific, they are not. Although we try to be as scientific as possible Parke County Haunts and its members lack the training and the resources for our investigations to be truly scientific and our investigators are not scientists. We are observers and we share our observations. While we do experience strange things during our observations we cannot say beyond a doubt that anything we have observed is proof of the paranormal or “ghosts”.

If you are experiencing things that you cannot explain or do not understand we would be more than happy to visit your home or business and try to experience them for ourselves and document these experiences. When we can, we will offer feasible non-paranormal explanations for what is happening.
